Editorial 02: Gloss or Grain

Gloss-1

Whenever I’m inspired by magazine editorials, I’m always interested in the medium in which they’re produced. Sometimes I rip pages out of glossy mags and stash them in a binder for later inspo, but then I come across the dark and grainy photographs that I wouldn’t dare tear. Why? What is it about the way photos are edited that make you treat them so differently. I’ve always admired how photographers can not only capture the shadows of a profile but also edit it in a way that makes you think about the photo longer. So today, I’m sharing my take on Gloss vs Grain. I incorporated the same look (wet hair and a dark lip) into each so you can see just how differently they look – both edited and cropped alternating between the two as to not lose rhythm – but you can see they are miles apart in comparison. I’m so into close-ups lately. And wet hair. For selfish reasons of course. So I need to know what you’re digging more: Gloss or grain? -m
