I cannot believe New York Fashion Week is over already! I am excited to relive all of the ups and downs with you and share my insight to the crazy, chaotic bliss of the shows and behind-the-scenes moments. Stacey, Christina and I learned so much throughout our trip – from how to get into shows, to networking, to getting photographed while also keeping your cool when standing next to your favorite celebrities. I will be sharing some of my secrets and hope you’ll also follow Stacey and Christina as they share their take on everything NYFW. To kick off this recap, I’m sharing my favorite outfit of the trip and one I felt exudes everything that is fashion – taking risks and having fun!

Throughout my posts I want to cover topics that kept coming up through my readers and in social media. Click on to see more of my outfit and find out my first tip. Cheers, babes!

There’s a funny misconception with NYFW and that is most people think you have to be “invited” to New York Fashion Week. The truth is New York is just a state and Fashion Week is merely an “event” that gathers people from all over the world and where fashion designers put their work out there via fashion shows (where models strut their goods down the runway) or presentations (when models are on pedestals and people can go up close to admire and photograph the pieces). Now getting invited to those fashion shows is a different story but if you’re a student or admirer in the area and just want to see the street style during NYFW, that’s free and just as exhilarating!

This year, I was determined to not let another season pass me by. Stacey, Christina and I bought our airline tickets MONTHS in advance and went to work. We had a professional video made that described our passions about NYFW and our personal style, we created a polished media kit and then we spent days and nights emailing every single designer or PR agency we knew were putting on shows or presentations during our trip. It was tough and we were exhausted. We were rejected – many times. Despite our devastation, out came invitations to some of the coolest shows and opportunities I have ever been able to experience.

I admit that when I first started out I was so clueless on all of the details but this whole experience for me has pushed me to work harder and come back next year stronger than ever. I think if you’re aspiring to do anything in fashion, media, design, or art NYFW is a must-check-off-your-bucket-list-like-tomorrow kinda thing. I spent days reliving the experience just looking through pictures on my iPhone wanting to pinch myself and am so thankful I took the chance and made it happen this year.

I’m excited to share more tips with you as I recap the rest of my outfits and shows. Have you ever wanted to go to New York Fashion Week? What’s stopping you?
